Raspberry Pi : Installing Arch Linux ARM

As promised here, Some found a little too exotic Moebius distribution, not enough to update so we will see how to use it to implement our various services. But first you have to install the Arch Linux distribution for ARM processors.

Raspberry Pi : installer Arch Linux ARM

Let's go to install the distribution, to update and prepare it for the next step

  1. Download the image to the site of Raspberry http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads
  2. Unzip the downloaded file
  3. Copy the image on the SD card. Find you instructions for a Mac here with the steps of 3 from 7
  4. Put the card into Raspberry Pi and switch it on. let's go !
  5. Wait a few moments then connect in SSH on the Raspberry
SSH root @.<IP of the Raspberry>

    The password is root

  6. Home, Despite the 512 MB, I get thisRaspberry Pi : installer Arch Linux ARM - memoireIt looks like a system in need of a good update !
  7. So being familiar with Debian, pour le fun j’ai tenté 🙂arch-2Suddenly I went looking for the equivalent command. I had seen a trick called pacman (I love !) and quickly stumbled on this page where everything is :https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman_Rosetta
  8. So, we will update the list of packages
    Pacman - Sy
  9. And now the full distribution
    Pacman - Syu

Experts say may be the first command was not useful. See.

  10. A small reboot and ….arch-3Phew !
  11. Now I want the most memory possible so we will update the file /boot/config.txt by adding the following line in the file
    gpu_mem = 16

This is an installed distribution, configured and ready for the next steps. If I forgot something, Please do not hesitate.

Thank you for this mini tutorial.

I indeed follows your blog since I my PI. My goal first being use as a HTPC, but I also wanted to be able to use it as a NAS, and SeedBox server for my torrents.

Raspbmc suited me well, but always after a few days my feet not rebooting more (and apparrament there in PCO that it had the problem).

I look good with impattience the suites of the Arch Linux tutorials.

Job Bo in all cases, and good continuation

Thanks for this mini tutorial to install, However I noticed that when installing, It occupies all space available sr SD card. Do you know to solve this problems ?

    • Hello,
J’utilise une carte de 2Gb du coup j’ai pas ce soucis 😉
I'm not too expert but I know that some distributions use resize2fs. See how on a mounted system. If I find any info I post here. If you find your side, I'm interested.

utilisez gparted et redimensionnez la partition ext4 🙂

      • Blackmam3a

I wanted to do on the RPi, without removing the SD card. I had already seen with gparted ! Thanks anyway, I'll do it this way !

        • Do it on the Raspberry then it is well resize2fs to be used. However it is necessary to cut all services, the process that make entries. resize2fs poses a lock on all the files to block entries. Less map is sought better.
Fais un backup avant d’essayer 🙂

to do so since the rpi should first use yogurt ( who downloaded the packages from AUR ) .

        on the first installs :

        Pacman-s yogurt

then it synchronizes with the AUR repository ( Arch User Repository ) :

        yogurt - Syy

voila, forget pacman and use yogurt has the place now ( with the same commands ).

        yogurt - Syu

        then

        yogurt s gparted

        then launch the GUI

        #gparted

( use gparted need to be logged in as root )

      • schattsebastien

for me both gparted cannot change a partition above it is removed and is not used.

It is therefore good rezise2fs need to use to do since the rpi.

However the filing aur and yoghurt ,It will always serve you ( try it it is to adopt it ) 😉

I think rather to use GParted for safety, However do you know if it starts live on a mac (by pressing the alt key) to avoid wasting a cd ?

      • Hello,

I just experience the same problem with tearing my hair for 1 h, not having managed to use GParted (He does not want to embark on a USB on my MacBook : Screen and keyboard not recognized …), I have process has some research and have found this : http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=3119#p18160 . Indications walk has beautifully and my partition takes the entirety of my card !

If someone else encounters this problem (What should happen) the answer is here =)

salut petite astuce totalement inutile et donc indispensable comme tu adores pacman 🙂

Edit the file “/etc//etc/Pacman.conf” with nano or vim and adds the option “ILoveCandy” in the section below of “[options]” :

    [options]

    ILoveCandy

La prochaine fois que tu installeras un paquet ou que tu telechargeras avec ton terminal tu retrouveras un vieux copain 😉

    • Huge !!! I love thank you !

Oops …I logged in with a different account :-p

    c’est sudo en fait 😉

Hello, I'm looking for where to return the network settings (DNS, fixed IP, gateway). Well I looked at forums where you see rc.conf or resolv.conf but mine are empty
